Child support is an issue that often arises in a divorce or legal separation when there are minor children involved. In a divorce, this issue is typically addressed after a custody arrangement is worked out, since the non-custodial parent is often required to pay child support to the custodial parent.

Whether you are a parent seeking child support or are facing the possibility of having to pay child support, you can benefit from involving a lawyer who is experienced in handling issues of this kind. For a free review of your case, we welcome you to contact a Las Vegas divorce attorney at Gordon Law Offices. We are dedicated lawyers with almost 60 years of combined legal experience to apply to our clients' cases.

How Much is Child Support in Las Vegas?

In Nevada, child support amounts are determined based upon set guidelines, standardizing the manner in which child support is determined. The court takes a number of different factors into account and always considers the best interests of the child before making a final decision.

Factors that may impact a child support award include:

  • The income of each spouse
  • The number of children
  • The physical timeshare of the children

For one child, 18 percent of gross monthly income will be allocated for support. If there are two children, the percentage rises to 25 percent and continues to rise depending on the number of children. The court may also consider the medical and educational needs of the child, along with any special needs that exist.

Put More than 60 Years of Experience on Your Side!

You need an advocate who can protect your rights and further your case in court – that is what you’ll find at Gordon Law Offices.

What Is The New Child Support Law In Nevada?

As of February 1, 2020, the regulations set revised guidelines for calculation of a child support obligation. The calculation is presumed to meet the basic needs of a child, but the presumption may be rebutted by evidence.
The schedule for the base child support obligation is as follows: For one (1) child, the sum of: (a) Sixteen percent (16%) of the first $6,000 of the obligor’s monthly gross income;(b) Eight percent (8%) of monthly gross income over $6,000 but equal to or less than $10,000; and(c) Four percent (4%) of monthly gross income over $10,000.
